Serve On Search and rescue

Humanitarian Crisis response at home and abroad, Helping people in their time of need.

Our volunteers are from all walks of life and of all ages, from 14 to 65+, from electricians to carpenters, nurses and students, office workers or blue light responders - and of course many others.

But, not all of our team goes out to rescue people! Our work would be impossible without the army of people working behind the scenes, every day, to keep the wheels turning.

Serve On has four main sections:

- International Response
- UK Operations
- K9 Search
- Rescue Rookies

What we offer

Our team believes strongly in working with other organisations to solve problems. We can deploy to support ongoing operations under an existing command structure or - on request - our experienced team commanders can help build and coordinate a response to an incident. As a group of humans looking to help out, we will fit in where we are needed and contribute where we can. No hidden fees, no egos, no dramas.

Technical Rescue

USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) - Our team has been responding to earthquakes, hurricanes, and other similar disasters for over 20 years. They carry technical search equipment including seismic and acoustic detectors to help them locate people buried deep under rubble. Once located, the team uses specialist tools and techniques to tunnel through the rubble to bring them out.

Water Rescue - Our DEFRA qualified Water and Flood Rescue team is an audited and approved national asset and can be deployed by the government. They can also be requested by councils, utility companies, police, fire & rescue, lowland rescue, and many other organisations. In the past we have deployed teams to everything from catastrophic flooding to a local duck race.

Command Support

The Command Support Team exists to give dedicated support to Incident or Team commanders by assisting with communications, logistics, coordination, and planning. They handle the details so the commander can focus on what’s important. Our Command Support Team is often deployed to support both our own teams, and other agencies.

Key Capabilties include:

  • Short & Long range communications

  • Information management

  • Large scale task allocation

  • UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) reconnaisance

UK Resilience & Response

We have a large UK volunteer base that are DBS checked and suitably trained so that they can be deployed as ‘safe persons’ in a variety of non-rescue roles.

Welfare Checks & ‘On the Ground’ Observation - Our team has been used for large scale welfare checks on vulnerable people during the Coronavirus pandemic and Storm Eunice. Teams can be sent to rural or hard-to-reach places to identify issues and help create a proactive response to a large area incident.

Logistics - Teams can assist transporting supplies or people be it on foot, by vehicle, or even by boat - with a little help from the Water Rescue team!

Emergency Power, Heating and Lighting - The team can provide and run warm, safe places with electricity either in large tents or set up into an existing building.

VACC (Voluntary Agency Coordination Centre) - An office/coordination centre can be provided with power, heat, and lighting for multi-agency use during incidents. This setup is ideal for MASHAs (Multi-Agecy Strategic Holding Areas) or similar concepts.

Community Visits and Training - Members of our team would love to come and talk to you about what to do during flooding and how you can make your community a safer place.

If you’re from another agency that works in this space, we’d love to work with you. Click the button here to find out how!
